Phylogenetic coverage of the protein dataset 1. The protein dataset 1 was constructed from the proteomes from a wide range of Phylogenetic lineages downloaded from diverse sites on 2010 (Additional file 1: Table S1): Prokaryotes (100,681 proteins) and eukaryots (1,165,473 proteins). Around 34% belonged to plant species, 36% to animal species and the rest to other species. a) The pie reflects the percentage of protein entries that belong to a given phylogenetic lineage. b) Number of species within phylogenetic groups of the tree of life [24].
