  1. Based on the isolation protocol, the cultivation methodology described in this paper, and a seeding density of not less than 1.0 × 104 cells per cm2, it is possible to scale up the number of HCECs to a range between 1.0 × 107 to 2.5 × 107 cells at confluence, by the third passage from a pair of donor corneas.
