  2. bAll persons with high CRP were excluded for other coexisting medical conditions. While a high CRP value is not an exclusion as defined in the 1994 case definition, we identified persons with CRP values that were several fold higher than the upper limits of normal values, as there may be an underlying inflammatory, infectious, or cardiovascular disease.
