  1. Children were enrolled in primary schools located in seven rural communities of the Department of Olancho, Honduras.
  2. 1Research participants were 7–15 years of age.
  3. 2EPG: eggs per gram of feces.
  4. 3Intensity of infection as determined by the fecal eggs count are classified into light, moderate, or heavy infections as follows, respectively: for A. lumbricoides, 1–4,999 EPG, 5,000 – 49,999 EPG and ≥50,000 EPG; for T. trichiura, 1–999 EPG, 1,000–9,999 EPG and ≥10,000 EPG; and for hookworms, 1–1,999 EPG, 2,000–3,999 EPG and ≥4,000 EPG [1].
  5. 4STH: soil-transmitted helminth.
  6. 5A value of 0 indicates that no parasite eggs were observed in the microscopic analysis.
  7. 6A value of 0 pg/mL indicates that the sample contained undetectable (<0.2 pg/mL) levels of IL-10.
