Distribution of PGI genes according to the length of their introns. The name given to PGI on the PCA plot represents the initials of the scientific name of the species, followed by a number which indicates to the isoform. The introns are indicated in blue. PGI groups of fishes and mammals are indicated in red and purple, respectively. The turquoise color represents bird/reptile PGI while bright color represents the lamprey (P. marinus), the spotted gar (L. oculatus) and the coelacanth (L. chalumnae) PGI that are isolated from the other groups
