Example of a 96-well plate set up for determination of the MIC of chlorhexidine using the broth microdilution method. TSB (Tryptic Soy Broth) is the media used in the microdilution assay. Each test well contains 100 µl of defined chlorhexidine dilution and 100 µl of 2 × 106 CFU/ml bacterial suspension. Negative control wells contain 200 µl media only to provide a turbidity control for reading end points. The positive control contained 100 µl of TSB and 100 µl of 2 × 106 CFU/ml of the test isolate to give a final concentration of 106 CFU/ml
