Assessment of the impact of vaginal gels on HSV-2 replication. HeLa cells were infected with HSV-2 preincubated (1 h, 37 ℃) with 20–2.5 w/v% concentrations of Gel-1, Gel-2, Gel-4 gels and 10–1.25 w/v% concentrations of Gel-3. At 24 h post infection, the cells were lysed and the HSV-2 DNA concentration was measured by direct qPCR. Statistical comparison of HSV-2 replication (Ct values of treated samples vs untreated controls (n = 3)) was performed by Student’s t-test. *P < 0.05, **P < 0.01
