qPCR: Applications and methodologies

The analytical methods based on quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) are broadly used around the world for multiple applications due to their flexibility, sensitivity and cost. An important number of qPCR-based methods have been developed for analysis of genetic variants, gene expression and DNA methylation in humans, animals, plants and microorganisms.
In this Editor’s choice collection, we highlighted several key papers about methodological advances and applications of qPCR-based techniques that were previously published in BMC Research Notes. Studies ranged from exploring the effect of master mixes to inhibitors of qPCR, DNA extraction methods, novel methods for assessing DNA methylation, and the analysis of siRNA-mediated mRNA silencing.

He is a Medical Doctor (Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Colombia) and has a PhD in Biomedical Sciences (University of Antwerp, Belgium). Dr. Forero has produced a significant amount of research in human genetics and genomics, with over 100 international scientific publications. He is a Senior Editorial Board Member for BMC Research Notes and has been a peer reviewer for numerous international publications, as well as academic and scientific institutions.
