Staphylococci with FAME activity are compared to somatic cell counts in milk from commercial dairy cows. Somatic cell counts from the milk samples from which the CNS strains were isolated are compared with FAME activity assayed from 24 h culture supernatants. No clear relationship was observed between FAME activity and SCC in milk for all CNS strains (r2 = 0.01).
